1937 SS Jaguar 100 3 1/2 Liter Roadster Price $1,045,000

S/N 39002; Engine # M501E; Black/Black leather; Estimate $750,000 - $950,000; Recent restoration, 2+ condition; Hammered Sold at $950,000 plus commission of 10.00%; Final Price $1,045,000 -- RHD. Excellent paint, chrome and interior. Freshly restored to better than new and loaded with bling. 2009 Pebble Beach class winner, the oldest surviving 3 1/2 litre SS100. Reported sold at Bonhams Goodwood Revival sale in 2006 for $296,230 as an older restoration out of the Kaus Rosso et Bianco Collection. Subsequently restored to beyond perfect condition, it is absolutely no surprise at all that the Pebble Beach bidders got all worked up over this SS100. It was eye-candy. That said, it is surprising to see a recent PB winner bring such a premium. Its show days are numbered and it's almost too beautifully restored and presented to risk stone chips and bug splatter ... the operative word being ‘almost.’ A car that endorses the principle, buy the very best you can afford: this is the very best but it brought a far beyond perfect

1955 Maserati A6G/54 Berlinetta, Body by Zagato  Price $1,595,000

S/N 2105; Engine # 2105; Black, White mouth and roof stripe/Black vinyl; Estimate $1,400,000 - $1,800,000; Recent restoration, 2 condition; Hammered Sold at $1,450,000 plus commission of 10.00%; Final Price $1,595,000 -- Chrome spoke Borranis, Condor radio, Marchal headlights. 1955 Turin Motor Show display car. Freshly restored in Italy in its original livery with the engine rebuilt by Pail Grist. Excellent paint, chrome and interior. Restored like new and impeccable. Sold by Bonhams in London in 2001 for $392,627 as an incomplete restoration, then completed under Adolfo Orsi's supervision. It was exceptionally expensive in 2001 and today is more than three times the $467,500 that RM got for another A6G 2000 Zagato, s/n 2189, here in 2003. It is a beautiful automobile and a high quality restoration, but it is nothing if not expensive.

1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Continental 3-pos. Drophead Coupe, Body by Gurney Nutting Price $528,000

1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Continental 3-pos. Drophead Coupe, Body by Gurney Nutting; S/N 117RY; Engine # RV65; Grey/Dark brown leather; Brown cloth top; Estimate $450,000 - $550,000; Older restoration, 3 condition; Hammered Sold at $480,000 plus commission of 10.00%; Final Price $528,000 -- RHD. Lucas head and fender lights, center-mounted fog light, dual horns, polished wheel discs, rear-mounted spare. Close-coupled 4-passenger coachwork with a huge separate trunk set between the rear fenders and hood side louvers extending into the cowl. Very nice older restoration coming undone. Stress cracks in the paint and chrome wearing. Interior and top are still exceptional. Stately, imposing and deftly combining a sporting look with the elegance of the 3-position top. Long ownership history and a quality, but now ageing, restoration, this is an ideal Rolls-Royce for all sorts of events and tours. The Pebble Beach bidders recognized its quality and adaptability with a result that is fair to both the buyer and the seller.

1995 McLaren F1  Price $3,575,000

S/N 062; Magnesium Silver/Black; Estimate $2,500,000 - $3,500,000; Unrestored original, 2+ condition; Hammered Sold at $3,250,000 plus commission of 10.00%; Final Price $3,575,000 -- Factory luggage, tools and service records. U.S. and California legal with updated cats to pass current California smog tests. First owned by Larry Ellison of Oracle, 3,242 miles only and, if anything, better than new. Stalled at $2.6 MM, then quickly by $100k increments to $3 MM. To hammer's fall by $50K increments. This is a serious price reflecting this car's unusual ability to be owned and driven in California. It nearly matches RM's sale of 065 in London in 2008 for $3,944,558, itself a market-altering transaction. McLaren has worked hard to maintain the secondary market values of their F1s and they must be very satisfied at how successful they have been.

1928 Hispano-Suiza H6C Convertible Sedan, Body by Hibbard & Darrin Price $357,500

S/N M1120900; Engine # 320104; Cream, Yellow fenders/Cream leather; Black cloth top; Estimate $350,000 - $450,000; Older restoration, 2- condition; Hammered Sold at $325,000 plus commission of 10.00%; Final Price $357,500 -- RHD. Dual sidemounts with mirrors, chrome wire wheels, whitewall tires, Marchal headlights. Plastic taillight lenses. An older concours restoration that has aged gracefully with only a few cracks and flaws beginning to show up. It is an impressive example of handsome coachwork that is evidence of Howard Darrin's mastery of complex convertible top mechanisms. Very attractive upholstery and fabulously fitted and detailed interior wood trim. John O'Quinn Estate. A high quality chassis and drivetrain wrapped in high quality coachwork. The skirted front fenders are probably from a later era, however, not 1928. A car of impeccable pedigree and design bought appropriately in the market for classics of the period but inherently more car than the money it commands today.

1962 Lincoln Continental ‘Bubbletop’ Kennedy Limousine, Body by Hess & Eisenhardt; S/N 2Y82H410667; Black; black vinyl & plexiglas roof/Black leather, grey leather, grey cloth rear; Estimate $500,000 - $750,000; Visually maintained, largely original, 3 condition; Hammered Sold at $390,000 plus commission of 10.00%; Final Price $429,000 -- One-off Continental built for the Kennedy White House fleet known as Secret Service vehicle 297-X. Frequently used by Jacqueline Kennedy, and also by other dignitaries and politicos. Fitted with a multitude of special features in addition to the Plexiglas bubbletop. As released from the White House fleet with fair old paint, sound original interior, decent chrome. Displayed at the Henry Ford Museum, then the Imperial Palace. Shows its age. Repaired paint chips, fading chrome and lightly worn interior. Still, a remarkable tangible piece of the Camelot presidency. John O'Quinn Estate. Appeal is not limited to car collectors and ‘it is what it is’ but probably not at the enthusiastic price paid by John O'Quinn who bought it through RM in Arizona in 2005 for $632,500. Odometer has just 80 more miles now than it did in 2005. Its history is its value.

1989 Aston Martin V8 Vantage Volante 'Prince of Wales'  Price $319,314

1989 Aston Martin V8 Vantage Volante 'Prince of Wales'; S/N SCFCV81C2KTR15733; Engine # V/580/5733/X; Graphite Grey/Red leather; Estimate $197,988 - $245,505; Unrestored original, 3+ condition; Hammered Sold at $285,102 plus commission of 12.00%; Final Price $319,314 – RHD. 5-speed, A/C, 3.06 axle, alloy wheels, Blaupunkt Toronto cassette stereo. 14,385 miles from new. A Vantage without the flares, spoilers and air dam, one of 25 built. Never restored and very attractive. The bidders rewarded this car, the first of many Aston Martins to cross the RM London auction block today, with a premium price reflecting its refined appearance, exceptional performance, low mileage and rarity. It lacks nothing and will be a rewarding car to own and drive, even at this way over-estimate price.

1989 Rolls-Royce Spirit Emperor State Landaulet, Body by Hooper Price $106,438

1989 Rolls-Royce Spirit Emperor State Landaulet, Body by Hooper; S/N SCAZSOOA1KCH26441; Black, Regency Red/Grey leather, Grey velour; Black cloth top; Estimate $126,712 - $190,068; Visually maintained, largely original, 3+ condition; Hammered Sold at $95,034 plus commission of 12.00%; Final Price $106,438 – RHD. Division window, rear compartment stereo. Beautifully done throughout with excellent upholstery, paint and interior wood trim. Created long after Hooper ceased regular coachbuilding to meet an Australian client's specifications. 143’ wheelbase. A spectacular exercise in excess, lavishly equipped. Largely original and showing age but still extraordinary. Hooper Corporate Collection. No Reserve. Dragged the bidders, kicking and whining, by 5's and 2 1/2's from GBP 25,000 to a final bid of GBP 60,000, a magnum opus by auctioneer Max Girardo and RM's team. With Mercedes-Benz 600 Landaulets, (even those not built in Sindelfingen) commanding twice this money this Rolls-Royce is unique, elegant and imposing. Its aged condition is fully recognized in this price. It's presence isn't. It's a good value, if this is what the buyer wants.
