Mercedes-Benz Type 300 — one of the biggest and
most prestigious models of the 1950th years. To
similarly modern S-class the three-hundredth model
was elegant, powerful, exclusive and expensive.
For the first time Mercedes-Benzs 300 presented
in 1951 on a motor show in Frankfurt. The car was
more than 5 meters in length with the chromeplated
bumpers and a radiator lattice, and also with the
well-known and known star on a cowl. All this gave
to the car greatness and prestige. It was the biggest,
most expensive and fastest car constructed by the
Western Germany after World War II. This limousine
called in honor of the German chancellor Konrad
Adenauer (Adenauer).
It’s unique appearance and features, in comparison
to previous post-War models, were a huge success,
gaining instant appeal by State governments,
celebrities, and wealthy businessmen. Features
included the X frame chassis of prior models, 6 cylinder
overhead valve carburated engine to compensate for
2+1/2 ton weight, central lubrication system of the
170 model, swing axle, and rear load leveler. Unique
options included, several Becker radio models,
VHF short-waved telephone, dictation machine, 7
basic MB colors, Webasto and metal sunroof, and
a custom-ordered combination of wood trim types,
leather or cloth seats, and carpeting. The models
used by Dr. Konrad Adenauer had further custom
features including window curtains, divider window,
magazine/newspaper nets, writing/eating trays,
document storage, lit mirrors, fog lamps, sirens, and
flag holders. Even in the middle of the last century
of Mercedes-Benz Adenauer cost very much. The
prices of the state limousines remained in secret but
when the car became available to ordinary citizens,

it cost 20 000 DM. For comparison of Volkswagen
1200 Export cost 5400, Opel Kapitaen — DM 9600,
average earnings in the Western Germany then
made about 350 DM. It is difficult to present how
many now there is this smart limousine.
During the period from 1951 to 1958 let out only 760
copies Mercedes 300. They were used generally by
public services of Germany, and also ambassadors.
At present in Russia only two Mercedes-Benz
Adenauer models one of which is in GREGORY’S
CARS Ltd remained.
In 1958 THIS limousine was let out specially for
the Bulgarian state leader Todor Zhivkov (Todor
Christoff Zhivkov; On September 7, 1911 — on
August 5, 1998) — the first (with 1954 on 1981),
then the secretary general of the Central Committee
of the Bulgarian communist party (on 1989). Hero
of Bulgaria. Hero of Socialist Work of Bulgaria. Hero
of the Soviet Union (1977).
As collectors and historians speak — subsequently
became its favourite car.
